Shinde’s name was announced at a press conference after meeting Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to stake claim for government formation. The BJP leader had announced that he would not be a part of the government.
Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted that Fadnavis would join the Eknath Shinde government
Eknath Shinde: However, a turning point came when BJP president JP Nadda said that the central leadership had asked Fadnavis to join the government as deputy chief minister. Minutes later, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted that Fadnavis would join the Eknath Shinde government.
Shinde, who served as urban development minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government, had rebelled against Shiv Sena chief and then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. He camped in a hotel in Guwahati and later in Goa with 39 other army MLAs, reducing the Aghadi government to a minority.
After the Supreme Court refused to stay the governor’s decision to conduct a floor test on Thursday, Thackeray resigned from his post last Wednesday night after announcing his decision to step down during his Facebook Live address.
Shinde started his political career in 1997
Eknath Shinde started his political career in the year 1997 when he was elected councilor for Thane Municipal Corporation for the first time. In 2001, he became the Leader of the House in the Thane Municipal Corporation and was elected to the Thane Municipal Corporation for the second time in 2002. He won the Maharashtra Assembly elections for the first time in 2004 from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency of Thane and has been an MLA for four consecutive terms since then. Eknath Shinde made his mark as a prominent leader of Shiv Sena in Thane-Palghar region in a very short time after entering politics. He is known to raise public issues forcefully.
Shinde is the minister of Urban Development
