India’s Performance at 2020 Tokyo Olympics

International Olympic Day 2022: The 32nd Summer Olympic Games were held in Tokyo, Japan in 2021, a year later due to the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. At the Tokyo Olympics, India won a total of seven medals, including a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event, finishing 48th in the overall medal tally.

Neeraj Chopra recorded a throw of 87.58m to win India’s first gold medal since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Abhinav Bindra won the 10m air rifle event.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver medals in women’s weightlifting 49kg category and men’s wrestling 57kg category respectively.

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu won her second Olympic medal by defeating He Bing Xiao of China in the bronze medal playoff. He also won a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Lovlina Borgohain (boxing) and Bajrang Punia (wrestling) also won bronze medals and became India’s richest medalist ever.
