IND vs AUS Match
Perth(25.11.2024): The air has been knocked out of the cricket experts who made grand claims before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian cricket team pulled off an incredible feat in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma, defeating the host Australia by a massive 295 runs in the Perth Test, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s lethal bowling (30/6 and 42/3). Chasing a daunting target of 534 runs, the Australian team was overwhelmed. Bumrah, who took a five-wicket haul in the first innings, continued to be the hero in the second innings. Consequently, India took a 1-0 lead in the series after bundling Australia out for 238 runs in their second innings. Both Bumrah and Siraj claimed three wickets each, while two wickets went to Sundar. Nitish and Harshit took one wicket each.
India’s biggest win by runs on Australian soil, Australia loses for the first time in Perth
This is the first time Australia has lost a Test match at this ground. India’s victory marks their largest win over Australia in Australia by runs. Previously, India achieved such a win in 1977 when they defeated Australia by 222 runs in Melbourne; this is the second-largest win overall. In Mohali, India handed Australia a humiliating defeat by 320 runs in 2008. The Indian team is now on cloud nine in the series.
Mohammed Siraj delivered early blows on the day
On the fourth day of the match, Mohammed Siraj bowled brilliantly in the morning session, sending opening batsmen Usman Khawaja and out-of-form Steve Smith back to the pavilion, causing Australia to lose five wickets for just 104 runs by lunch, while chasing India’s target of 534 runs. Australia began the day on three wickets for 12 runs and soon lost Khawaja (04), who, attempting to pull a delivery from Siraj, was caught easily by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who had been sold for 27 crore rupees at the IPL auction.
IND vs AUS Match: Bumrah dismissed the troublesome Travis Head
Travis Head (89 runs, 101 balls, and 8 fours), who has been a constant thorn in India’s side recently, along with Smith (17), added some runs for the fifth wicket, causing a bit of trouble for India. However, after lunch, India quickly dismissed Head. Head was batting brilliantly on a deteriorating pitch, not missing a chance to score off loose deliveries. He completed his half-century in just 63 balls, sending a delivery from Siraj over the wicketkeeper’s head for four runs.
The Kangaroos’ pride shattered.
Travis Head was caught behind after lunch by Rishabh Pant off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. Siraj, who had a poor performance in the series against New Zealand, managed to trouble the batsmen on a pitch with uneven bounce. Smith also handed a catch to Pant off Siraj’s good-length delivery that moved.
Both Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are struggling with poor form in the current World Test Championship cycle, which is a concern for the host team. Mitch Marsh fell for 47 runs, bowled out by debutant Nitish Reddy. He faced 67 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Soon after, Washington Sundar caught Mitchell Starc out for 12 runs, and in the next over, bowled out Nathan Lyon. The last wicket fell in the form of Alex Carey, who was dismissed by Harshit Rana for a personal score of 36 runs.
